Timing is Everything!

Good buddy Roy, hitched up and left yesterday morning. He stayed with us for about 12 days while he worked on his property. He bought 2 lots in January, and needed to spend time improving them so he can park there. He needed to convince the county to grade the road, he had to lay out his driveway and parking areas, cut trees, move rocks, dig cactus, and get the cinders delivered and tailgated. PHEW! We all did this, but forgot how much work it was. He also had a 40' shipping container delivered for storage. So, yesterday he left, anxious to get to Yuma and warm nights.

As I said, timing is everything! He got out just in time, as it started snowing last night. When we woke up this morning we had 4-6 inches of the white stuff laying around. The trees were dusted with puffs of snow, the new porch was covered and the dogs got a nasty, cold surprise when they pranced out to do their "business."

All in all...I think it is beautiful! I can look at it from inside, warm and dry. AND, I don't have to get out and go to work.

What a change 24 hours can make. Stay tuned...we're expecting more!!!!!!!!!

It's a GUY Thing!! Day 3

Ted and Tony worked for 2 1/2 hours today. The roof is on, or at least the plywood is on and the tar paper, Tyvek and shingles will be next.

It's a Guy Thing!!! Day 2

After a four hour day on Friday, Tony and Ted started Day 2. They worked steadily for 8 hours and this is what they accomplished! They needed to put a "come along" on the posts as they were "drifting."

At the end of the day, the porch was looking good! Tomorrow, they'll start here. Maybe we'll have a roof and steps by the end of the day.

It's a GUY thing!! Day One

(Hey CUZ, this one's for you!)

Are we building an 8x12 deck...or porch??? The discussion is over, we are building a PORCH! (A porch has a roof!) Anyway, construction has begun. First, concrete had to be poured to secure the posts.

Then, Ted used the backhoe to fill in and sorta level the ground.

All that work had to sit for a few days before our neighbor, Tony, could begin the construction. He is a trained carpenter!

Anytime power tools are being used in the neighborhood, neighbors drop in to see what's up! We have very little entertainment otherwise!

We borrowed Norm's trailer and eventually his Durango, to haul this load of materials back from town. The boards are 16 foot TREX and the whole load cost us over $1100. We are on a "save... then spend" program, so we only buy what we have the cash for. NO DEBT!!!!!!!!!!! (Ted's Durango lost the water pump last week, so it is in for repairs. Life goes on!)

Update

Sorry folks, life has been ordinary, humdrum, routine, and uneventful. We're working on a new deck/back porch and the story will be posted sometime next week.
