And So It Begins...

It seems ironic. A year ago today, Valentine's Day 2008, I got the news that my condo was flooded and virtually destroyed. A pipe froze, broke, and flooded the condo for almost a WEEK! I thought disaster had struck and 7 weeks of HELL followed. But, I was able to sell the condo as is, for cash, and that gave me the freedom to pursue Ted's and my dream of living year-round in Concho, AZ.

So, today, Valentine's Day 2009, Roger arrived with his backhoe to find where our septic tank will be located. As you can see, there is snow on the ground and it was 28 degrees outside, but he was willing to work. As a result, we will be able to have a conventional septic system installed. When we get the permit, we can proceed with the line extension for electricity ($$), and arrange to have our home delivered from Tucson.

What a difference a year can make!!! There is a lesson here for all of us.

...................My HERO!!!

If you look closely, or enlarge the picture, you can see THE BROOM!! We don't have a shovel and are sharing a pair of boots that I bought yesterday at Wal*Mart for $8.00. Ted swept the path between our rigs, and then swept a clear area for Barney, who is not happy with COLD TOES!! We're warm enough inside our rigs, but my refrigerator has decided to take a break and I'm keeping ice in it to keep everything cool. We're waiting to see when the septic guy will show up.

I'm doing my part though. I have a big pot of soup on the stove and we'll eat well tonight!

This and That...

On Monday, we helped celebrate Ernie's 75th birthday. Since Ted's (TG) birthday is also in February he was also mentioned on the cake. Lynn is Ernie's cousin and she also has a February birthday.

Ernie and Wanda invited about 40 WINs, who all had a grand time. It is amazing, we don't see some of these folks very often, but there is always lots to talk about! Many of them were very interested in what we're doing in Show Low and "threaten" to come check us out!!

On Thursday, we left Yuma for Show Low. We stayed at the fairgrounds at Casa Grande and discovered the GOURD FESTIVAL! Who knew gourds deserved their own festival? A local farm sponsors the event and had these gourds for sale. There must be THOUSANDS of them here.

$5.00 a foot??????????

On Friday, we finished the trip home, (Did you catch that?) and were stopped for construction on the highway. I had a front row seat for about 20 minutes. Look at the dust created by the boulders hitting the rocks and highway below. I want the job of the foreman watching the whole scene from above the equipment.

Tonight, Saturday, we celebrated Norm and Olga's 50th anniversary. It was also Ted's birthday. I cannot imagine 50 years with the same person and admire the love and commitment they share.

However, Norm "got me!" with my own camera. This one's for you, Norm!
