Poor Joey.......

Here's Joey 24 hours after her four hour rotator cuff surgery. When the surgeon got into her shoulder, he found bursitis, a calcium spur, a tendon that was out of place...and a tear in her rotator cuff. No wonder she was in such pain! He was able to smooth out the spur, diminish the bursitis, put the tendon back in place, and repair the tear. FOUR HOURS!!!! When we saw her yesterday after the surgery, she looked "beat up!" But, today she is able to smile.

When a WIN or LoW needs medical help, our friends are the best source of help in the world! Pete drove her to her surgery and is in town right now, getting more bandages, etc. He will continue to watch over her. Ted donated some of his t-shirts so she would be more comfortable, and I'm bringing back today's pot-luck leftovers so she will have plenty of food to microwave whenever she wants. The wonderful thing about Joey is...she welcomes help. So many of us are fiercely independent and hurt ourselves when we won't accept an outreached hand. Not Joey! She's going to do fine in her recuperation, because she has so many of us to help her!

Mother's Day 2010

Hail, Hail, the GANG's all here!!!!! A few of us stayed the whole winter, but this week, the rest of the gang arrived, by ones, twos, threes, and fours. John C and Jon T put on their yearly Mothers' Day Breakfast, with the help of the other men and a few women.

The women honored were Joey, Carol, ME, Donna, Shari, Linda, Barb K, Taylor, Barb A, Sue, Connie and Joy.

Everyone enjoyed the food, and this year John had pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage, and an egg casserole made by yours truly. (Ted carried it for me! ;)

Yes, Joey, I want your picture! Since Joey also writes a blog... sometimes... we may end up doing "blog wars!"

After eating our fill, we all had a great time talking with the folks we haven't seen in sooooooooooo long!

The alpacas are still here and Tony had them eating out of his hand.

They are cute...but I wouldn't want to take care of them.

Sisters

This is my favorite picture of the ones Ted took on our last night together. (Maybe my sister will send me the ones Lowell took and I can share them, too.) Our parents died in 1967 and 1968 and since then it has been a tradition to take a yearly picture of the sisters. Janet and I had an older sister, Carolyn, who died in 1999. So, now it is just the two of us, no aunts, uncles, or grandparents. We do have 4 treasured first cousins but no older generation. WE'RE IT!!! Janet and Carolyn each had two sons and Lowell brought two more boys into the family, so the next generation is secure.

Janet married when I was 17, and since then, we have never had any time to be sisters without the constant interruption of family life. This time we had 4 nights/3 days and made use of all the daylight hours. Ted says we talked non-stop for 3 days in the car, only being interrupted for historic moments before resuming where we left off. We created a very strong bond, to the point that I really miss her! I'll be going back to MI in 2011 for a class reunion, and a family reunion as well!!!

Wild Women Saloon

My sister, Janet, and her husband, Lowell, visited us from Michigan. They took the scenic route from Michigan to Las Vegas, NV, to see Kent and Stephanie. I haven't seen my sister in 3 1/2 years, and never without tons of family around for a holiday dinner usually at her house. So, having just the four of us for three straight days was a special treat. The days...and nights...were cold and dreary, so each day we took a car trip to some local attraction. First, we went to Bison Ranch, a condo/rental property owned by Wyndom. It is near Heber/Overgaard and a lovely drive from Show Low. I knew we needed to eat lunch at the Wild Women Saloon but I didn't know we would have an opportunity for such a great picture. Janet made me the shrug I'm wearing and it gave me welcome warmth all day!

Here's her lunch, grilled romaine salad. She ordered it just to see how you grill lettuce. She said it was very good.

Here's my lunch. The menu was mostly burgers and sandwiches and I wanted something hot...so I ended up with a house salad, french onion soup with NO onions or cheese, and plain veggies. BLAH!!!!!!!!!!!! The men ordered BLTs which arrived at the table uncut! I definiely do not recommend this place for lunch.

But the buildings are fun to explore. The following pictures show a little of the businesses on the property.
