Double Rainbow

Last night, Norm and Olga stopped by to introduce visiting relatives from NM. As they were leaving, they spotted this double rainbow. It was really unusual, because we could see the whole double rainbow...

...end to end. If they hadn't stopped by, I would have missed the whole thing, and that would have been shame! It was very special. ;)

Ladies Only!

I decided to have some fun...without Ted. He has started a stained glass class at the local college, and I'm alone one night a week. So...while the "cat's away"...I decided to play! I invited 7 ladies over for a pot-luck salad dinner. (I have 8 chairs!) I provided the lettuce and dessert. Everyone else brought something to "go with." Here you can the delicious array and my wonderful serving island.

And here are Sue, Donna, Patricia, Judy, Marlene, Sally and Olga getting started. Boy, did we laugh! I like small dinner parties because you can have one table conversation. We all told stories, laughed about the past, and generally ignored any conversation related to MEN!

POW WOW in the Pines 2009

The White Mountain Apache Tribe owns 44,000 acres of the most beautiful mountain terrain I have ever seen. They own and operate the Hon Dah Casino and Conference Center and Sunrise Ski Resort, the premier ski area in this area of Arizona. They also host the POW WOW in the Pines every June. Native Americans gather from all over Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico and Oklahoma. It is a major social event and a time to show pride in their heritage.
.
I took 41 fabulous pictures and had a very difficult time culling the pictures to the ones you'll see here. First...MY FAVORITES! Somewhere in this riot of color, is a young man dancing his heart out.

And a young woman dancing with heart and purpose.
These teen boys have energy to burn...and a good outlet for it!

Many of the outfits have been passed down through the generations. These senior men wear their heritage with pride, but can't sit down.

The women dance with restraint and dignity.

The children are irresistible.

Some individuals capture attention more than others. Each outfit tells a story and is full of symbolism.

And in every culture...wives are unhappy.
When you visit Show Low, the COWBOYS and the INDIANS are the REAL DEAL!
