Sue's 65th

Birthdays are always a big deal...especially the 65th one....Medicare and all that, don't you know!! So, Donna (on the right) prepared a celebration for Sue (in the middle). Donna cleaned the rig and cooked all day in order to have 7 of us over for dinner. Those of you who don't live in RVs can see how carefully space must be used to fit us in. Donna used her table as a buffet for the food and we sat around the added tables. We're used to "closeness" and sure had a lot of fun!

Dog Watching

There's not a lot of excitement around here right now. Life goes on and I'm searching for ideas for the blog. So, I thought I'd take a personal moment and show you what one lonely dog looks like. Ted goes to stained glass class one evening a week. Here is his dog, Rebel, just after he left. Rebel has found he can be very comfortable on the couch and still WATCH OUT THE FRONT WINDOW. From this vantage point he can watch both driveways and be on the alert for passing COWS! Yes, the marauders wander through our land eating everything in sight, even our new trees. Rebel is the best Early Warning System we have, and his watchfulness is why.

Still, watching him...makes me sad.

Apache County Fair

Apache County Statistics

• 11,174 square miles
• longest county in the U.S.A. 211 miles from the Utah border to just south of Alpine, AZ
• 2/3 of the population and more than 1/2 of the land is comprised of the Navajo Nation, the largest Native American Tribe
• total county population 70,000

Not surprisingly, Apache county is also the poorest county in AZ.

I thought the art exhibits were very good, and especially enjoyed this picture.

The Native American art was amazing.

Arizona is very proud to be providing the Christmas Tree for the nation this year. It has been selected from the forests near Show Low.

The 4-H program is alive and well.

Needlework is still valued. (The sign is sideways, not the picture!)

I didn't grow a garden this year, but I appreciate those who did. We had VERY little rain and most gardens suffered.

This coat of chain mail was hand made.

The artistry in this saddle was impressive.

The Boy Scouts always need support. The Girl Scouts were not represented.

Here the cattle are bathed and prepped for the show ring. They used WD 40 to shine up the hooves!

Ice Cream Social

What should we do on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, with 20 or so of our "closest" friends????

Have an ice cream social! And, that is just what Ted and I did again this summer. We supplied the ice cream and everyone else brought their favorite topping. We had cake, cookies and toppings galore! YUM! Seniors don't seem to be quite as calorie conscious as we used to be, or else, we all just love making our own ice cream fantasy!!!!

Choosing from the array of goodies was serious business!
It even involved consultations with friends...

There was plenty to go around...

and afterwards, people were too full, and happy, to anything more than sit and chat.
